What Are the First Steps When Constructing a Concrete Parking Lot?

If the parking lot is to be constructed on undeveloped land, the first step is to clear the trees and other vegetation from the site. We can then evaluate the site and the surrounding terrain to identify potential drainage issues. We will also evaluate the soil on which the parking lot will rest. Soil that contains too much clay will shrink and swell as its moisture content fluctuates, and this can affect the horizontal alignment of concrete slabs. Soil that contains too much sand may not offer the ability to bear the loads expected to be placed on the pavement. If necessary, we will take the required steps to amend the soil or improve the underground drainage.

What's Involved in construction of a new Concrete Parking Lot?

Once the site has been properly prepared, we can proceed with the construction. We will level and compact the soil to ensure its stability. Next, we will construct a base on top of the soil. The thickness and composition of the base will be determined by the information gathered during our site evaluation and from our interviews with the client regarding the traffic that will be using the parking lot. After the base is completed, we will construct the forms that will be used to contain the concrete mix. If necessary, rebar or reinforcing mesh is placed in the forms. It is then time to start bringing in the concrete trucks to make the pour. Working quickly and carefully, our skilled concrete workers make sure that the surface is level and smooth. The forms will be left in place until the concrete is sufficiently set. The interval between the pour and the form removal depends on the time of year, the thickness of the concrete, and the specific mix used, but it is typically two or three days. When the time has elapsed, we return to remove the forms, and we will perform an inspection to verify that we have provided our customer with the superior results for which we are known.

Benefits of Concrete Parking Lots

Strength

Concrete has a high compressive strength. This means that it can support heavy vehicles and high volumes of traffic without buckling.

Light Reflection

Concrete reflects more light than asphalt. The reflected light makes it easier to ensure that the area is well-lit and safer, but it can also reduce your electric bill.

Low Maintenance

Asphalt parking lots require more preventive maintenance than concrete lots. Well-built concrete parking lots seldom need to be serviced, which can reduce your routine maintenance and repair costs.

Excellent ROI

Although it costs more to build a concrete parking lot than a comparable asphalt lot, the longer life of a concrete lot can make it a more cost-effective choice.

Eco-Friendly

Most ingredients in modern concrete are chemical-free, natural, and abundant. Since concrete absorbs less heat, it does not contribute to the heat island effect the way that asphalt can, which helps make the area more comfortable for humans, animals, and plants in the area.
